So Like a Rose
by Nyssa Jayne

He sits by his bedroom window, listening to the sound of the rose he taps against the glass, looking out into the dark sky.  She is behind him, sleeping quietly like a ghost.

He remembered being fifteen years old, signing his life away.  Non-descript business men came alive, their eyes shining minty green, as they told him all about how his rockstar dreams would come true.  They were like monsters, leering over him, staring him down.  Mother warned him of the consequences, his innocent bandmates glowed with a naïve excitement.
"There's no going back," they chanted, all with different intent.
It was there that he signed his life away.  Signed away his right to love, so he could surrender to what he though would always ring true, his music.

There was no going back on this one.

He is now twenty-two and madly in love.  She is the dream girl of every lusting single, but a reality for him.  His first love, his music, still rings true.
There is no going back on this one.

He will leave her, ghostly quiet, in the care of the stars.  She can ease her way into daytime.
He stands, leaves the rose he has been tapping against the window.  He knows he'll go crazy without her, but he would be lost without his music.

"I wish you could stay here," she breathes.
"But there's no going back on this one."

He leaves her.  There's no going back.

Baby thinks he's dying
Lost inside his bedroom
Mummy won't stop crying
And Daddy's always working

There's no going back
There's no going back
There's no going back
On this one

Baby wakes up with the sun
While everyone is sleeping
He thinks he's going crazy
But this could be the big one

There's no going back
There's no going back
There's no going back

Sleeping with ghosts
It's such a lonely experience
The stars are out tonight
Only they can hear you breathing

You're so like a rose
You're so like a rose
You're so like a rose
I wish you could stay here
