What is this project?
Hanson wrote this song, "The Great Divide", inspired by their trip to a South African hospital and some friends who are working to further HIV/AIDS prevention technology. Proceeds from the iTunes sale of this song go to the Perinatal HIV Research Unit (PHRU) at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto, South Africa.
What I do is hand-paint slippers (flip flops) with designs inspired by "The Great Divide". All profits from the sale of the slippers go to help fund the PHRU.
This is for you, a Hanson fan or just a cool human being, to help further a wonderful, important cause, and to get yourself some neat shoes out of the deal.
The Perinatal HIV Research Unit
The Perinatal HIV Research Unit (PHRU), established in 1996, is one of the largest AIDS research centres in Africa. The early research focus on prevention of mother-to-child transmission has expanded and PHRU now leads studies on many different aspects of HIV prevention, treatment and care including medical and social research.
Visit the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital website to read about the hospital and other donations you can make.
Check out the "Great Divide" ecard, where you can hear the song, watch the video and find out how to download it and do your part. Every person counts!
If you'd like to directly donate to the Perinatal HIV Research Unit, you can send an international money order (pick one up at your local post office) to:
