The Birthday Wish - Part 2

"Me."
"It's amazing how much things can change if only one person is taken away, isn't it?"
"Ok I get you're point. I made mistake," Taylor said, tears in his eyes again, "But I want my life back! I want my family to talk to me, to see me. I want to be in the band agian. I want eveything the way it used to be."
"Well, I'm sorry Taylor. It's too late. You made this wish and now you have to live with it."
"Well why can't I wish everything back to normal?"
"Because I'm only allowed to grant you one wish and this is what you wished for."
"But I don't want this," Taylor said, his eyes pleading with the man.
"Then you should have been more careful," the man stated, trying to make the distraught young man understand.
"Please take me back. I have to see my family."
"I don't think that is a good idea Taylor. You won't like what you see."
"Take me back! Please!"
The man sighed, "Alright. But I warned you."
Suddenly the house faded back in and it was night.
"What happened. It was daytime when we left. We weren't gone for that long," Taylor said confused.
"It may have been only a few minutes to us but to them it was a few hours." They then heard laughing fom the kitchen. Taylor turned and walked in there followed by the man. Upon walking in, he saw his entire family sitting around the table laughing. They looked so happy.
"So dad," Isaac started, "You said something big was gonna happen on March 14th. Well, that's today. So what happened?"
"Yeah honey tell us," Taylor heard his mother say.
"Well," Mr. Hanson started, "My boss said that he wanted to talk to me and that it may change my life. And I think it will. Not only mine, but all of us."
"What is it?" Thier mother asked.
"Well, you know how I have to travel all the time and never get to see you guys?" They all nodded. "Well, I have now been transferred to a local branch and will be handling all sales in the Tulsa area, have recieved a huge bonus, a weeks paid vaction, starting this Saturday, and the best part, no more traveling."
"Alright!" the whole family cheered.
"Oh honey that's wonderful," Mrs. Hanson said as she hugged her husband.
"Great! I guess that means that from now on March 14th isn't just a regular day."
Taylor looked at Zac and felt a tug at his heart, "Just an ordinary day," he said. "I wished for that and it happened." He looked to the man, "And now it really is just an ordinary day, isn't it?" The man nodded. Taylor looked back to his family. He started to cry again. "Why did I say those things?" he said sadly.
The man put his hand on Taylor's shoulder, "I warned you. I'm sorry you had to see that but you said you wanted to."
Taylor turned to the man, "Leave me alone! Just leave me alone!" he yelled and ran up the stairs.
The man turned, "Boy don't go in your room!" The man knew though that Taylor would. He put his hand up to his mouth knowing that what he found would most likely send Taylor over the edge.
Taylor ran up the stairs and into his room. He turned on the light and stopped dead in his tracks. It was so different. Instead of three beds there were only two. All of his stuff was gone, "No. No this can't be happening." he said. He opened up the closet and started pulling out clothes. None of them were his, only his brothers. He ran to the dresser and did the same. No matter where he looked, none of his stuff could be found. Finally he looked back up at the door and saw the man giving him a sympathetic look,
"Where's my stuff. What is happening?"
The man walked up to him, "Taylor, you don't exist. therefore your stuff doesn't either."
"Stop saying that.! I do exist! I do exist!" He couldn't take it anymore. He fell to the floor and and hugged his knees. He didn't mean for this to happen. He wanted this nightmare to end. He wanted his life and family back. He just sat, hugging his kees and rocking gently, his head on his folded arms.
The man, feeling sorry for him, knew it was time to end this. He knelt down to Taylor and grabbed his arms making Taylor look at him, "Taylor. It's time to go now."
"Go where? I don't want to go anywhere!"
"Taylor, you can't stay here. Look what it's Doing to you. Just come with me please."
"I...I can't leave. This is my home. My family."
"Taylor I want to show you something. Come here." He then got up and went out into the hallway.
Taylor hesitated but followed anyway.
He walked out into the hallway and saw the man motion for him to come over. Slowly, Tayor walked over to him, "Look."
Taylor looked at the wall. There in front of him was the plaque thier dad had gotten for thier mom last Mother's Day. It had a baby picture of each of them and the year they were born. He was not on it. His heart sank, "No," he said.
"Now Taylor. I am gonna give you a choice here. You can stay here, with a family that does not even know you're there. Or you can come with me and have a chance at getting another family someday."
"No way! This is my family and this my home. I would rather be with my family and have them ignore me then be surrounded by a bunch of strangers. I'm staying here."
"Is that what you really want? Even though it's obviously very painful to you?"
Taylor nodded, "Yes."
"Alright then, suit yourself." And with that the man walked down the hallway and stopped at his sisters' bedroom door, "Are you sure this is really what you want Taylor?"
"Yes. Yes, I have to be here."
"Ok then, good luck and God help you." He then opened the door but rather than it being a bedroom, the room was nothing but a bright, white light. The man then walked into the light and closed the door, leaving Taylor there alone. Taylor then heard more laughing and headed back downstairs. He saw his family there. They were now playing a board game. He looked closer and saw that it was Monopoly. He then noticed the box sitting next to him on the counter. Inside lay the shoe. He was always the shoe. He remembered that Mackenzie would always say,"No one be the shoe cause that's Taylor's favorite." Mackenie would always then stick the shoe on his finger and then make his fingers "walk" to Taylor. Taylor smile at the thought. That wouldn't happen anymore though. His smile disappered as he looked at the box again. He really didn't exist. he couldn't look at them anymore.

He ran to the front door and opened it. There before him was the endless sky, only this time it was a night shy. He looked up, "Please God I'm so sorry. I never meant for this to happen. Please God just give me my life back. Give me my family back. Please!" The then all of his emotions and turmoil rush to the surface, "I want my life back!" he yelled, "Please. I want my life baaaaack!" Suddenly, a bright, blinding light shone and scared him. Blindy he stepped forward and fell himself start to fall. "Ahhhhhhhhhhhh............."

"Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh!" Taylor sat, trying to catch his breath. He was sitting somewhere in the dark. He start to look around and saw a strip of light that looked to be coming from a window with that shade pulled down. He then realised he was sitting in a bed. "My room," he said, "I'm in my room." He got up quickly and pulled the shade up, causing a loud noise. "Daylight?" he said, remembering that not even a minute before it had been dark outside.

"Taylor?" Taylor jumped and turned around,
"Zac!?" he said in utter shock.
"Taylor what are you doing? Are you ok?" Zac said as he sat up in his bed, having just been rudley awakened.
"Zac, you can see me?"
Zac raised an eyebrow, "Of coarse I can see you Taylor. Don't get all weird on me."
Taylor smiled. Someone could see him, "Hey Zac, what's today?"
"You're kidding me right?" Zac said, wondering why his brother was acting so weird.
"No I'm not Zac. What is today?"
Zac got a little worreid about the desperation in Taylor voice, "It's March 14th Taylor."
Taylor's smile grew, "March 14th!?" He stopped, "Zac, is there anything special happening today?"
"Ah geez Taylor if the only reason you woke me up was to hint about your bithday I am seriously gonna have to hurt you!" Zac said in an annoyed tone.
"It's my birthday! It's my birthday! I was all a dream! I do exist!"
Zac then got up and walked over to his brother, who in his opinion had flipped his lid, "Taylor?"
"Yeah?" Taylor said.
"Don't make me have to hit you."
"Hit me," Taylor said thinking about it, "Yes! Zac hit me!"
"Huh!?" Zac said, now convince his brother was crazy.
"Hit me Zac please!"
"Yeah Zac," Isaac stated from his bed, "Hit him. Maybe he'll shut up and let us get some more sleep."
Zac looked from Isaac to Taylor, "Please Zac!" Taylor pleaded.
"Ooooooooooookay," Zac said, and then hit Taylor hard on the shoulder.
"Ow!" Taylor said, grabbing his shoulder, "That hurt. It hurt! Yes it hurt!" He then hugged Zac, thankful that he didn't go through him.
Isaac then sat up, "Taylor what the heck is wrong with you?" Taylor then let go of Zac, "Oh man Isaac!" Taylor said as he ran and grabbed Isaac shoulder cautiously, not going through him, "Oh yes!" Taylor yelled as he hugged Isaac too. "This is great! I'm really here!"
"Really?" Zac asked, "because I'm beginning to think that's not entirly true."
Taylor just ran to Zac, "Oh Zac, that was an insult, I love you man!" he said as he grabbed Zac and kissed him on the cheek. He then ran to the door and stopped fast when he realised that he just kissed his brother. He turned around and saw Zac giving him a discusted, shocked look and Isaac trying not to laugh. "Uh, Sorry Zac," Taylor said and the ran out of the room and down the stairs.
Zac turned to Isaac, "Is it just me or is he acting just a bit weirder than usual?"
"Don't ask me I don't what the heck is wrong with him," Isaac said, still laughing at what had just happened. They both then got up and went downstairs, wanting to see what else thier brother was gong to do.
Taylor got downstairs and walked into the kitchen. His little sister Avery and little brother Mackenzie both looked at him, "Hi Taylor!"
"Yes! You can see me!" he then looked at his mother who was giving him a strange look. He walked over and waved his hand in front of her face, "Mom?"
She waved her hand as well, "Yes?"
"Oh mom!" He said hugging her tight.
"Taylor what's gotten into you?" she askd as Isaac and Zac enter the kitchen. Taylor pulled away and looked into her eyes, "Alot mom. Alot has gotten into me."
"Well I'm glad to see you're in a better mood this morning," Mr. Hanson said as he walked over towards them.
"Dad!" Taylor said as he hugged his dad. Mr. and Mrs. Hanson shared a worried and confused look. "Taylor are you alright?"
"I have never felt better in my entire life!"
Taylor then looked over and saw his little brother looking at him. He walked over and knelt down in front of him, "Hey Mackenzie can I ask you a question?"
"Ok," Mackenzie answered.
"Who's your best friend?"
"Jimmy Roberts, the boy next door. You know that Taylor. I mean you're the one that told me I didn't have to be afraid to talk to him or any other kids. Don't you remember?"
"Yes I do. I'm so happy, " he said as he hugged his little brother. His family all shared confused looks with each other. Taylor then let go of Mackenzie and the little boy looked at him with unsure eyes,
"Does this mean you aren't mad at me anymore?"
"Of coarse not. Why would I be mad at you?"
"Well, last night when I came in your room, and in the kitchen..."
"Hey buddy I didn't mean any of that. And I didn't to yell at you either. I'm sorry about that. Really, I am."
Mackenzie then turned and pulled something out from under his placemat, "Does that mean I can give this to you now?" Taylor took it from his brother's hands and looked at it. "I made it for you."
Taylor smile as he looked at it. It was a birthday card and on the front it said, "Happy Birthday to on of the coolest brothers around."
"Momma helped me a little on the spelling but I made the card," Mackenzie said.
Taylor opened it up and on the inside was a hand drawn picture of him, Mackenzie, and thier new little dog. Pretty good work for a child Mackenzie's age too.
Taylor just looked at it, "Aw kiddo, this means so much to me you have no idea."
"You mean you like it?" Mackenzie asked, getting happy.
"I love it!" Taylor answered.
"Good cause I love you Taylor." He couldn't take it anymore. Taylor burst into tears, so many emotions just raging trhough his body. He was so happy things were back to normal and yet felt so aweful about the way he'd acted the night before.
Mr. Hanson to his son's side, "Hey are you ok? What's wrong."
"I'm so sorry you guys. I didn't mean the things I said last night. Please don't be angry with me and plese don't ever forget me."
"Why on earth would we forget you Taylor?" his dad asked.
"I don't know. Just please don't!"
"We won't Taylor. It's ok. We all love you and we forgive you. Right guys?"
"Yeah," everyone said
. "I mean, we were kinda going on and on about your birthday. I guess I would have cracked to," Zac said. Taylor smiled,
"Thanks Zac." Taylor then looked to the hallway,"Um Excuse me. I'll be right back."
"Are you ok honey?"
"I'm fine mom, really," Taylor said as he got up and to reassure her, kissed his mother on the cheek. He then walked to the hallway and looked at the pictures. "Oh thank God," he said. He was in all the pictures that he was in before. He picked up one of the family portraits and just stared at it.
"Taylor?" Taylor turned and saw Isaac and Zac standing there. Taylor put the picture down,
"Hi guys."
"Taylor are you alright?" Isaac asked concerned.
"Yeah I'm fine you guys. I just came to a realisation last night." He paused before continuing, "A painful realisation. I'm so sorry you guys. I was a jerk, just like you said. Do you really forgive me?"
"Of coarse we do," Zac said.
"Yeah," Isaac continued, "You're our brother, we love you man!" He finsihed in a goofy, overdramatic voice. Taylor laughed and just hugged his brothers.
Hey guys, is it ok if we still have that party. I really need to be around people," Taylor asked.
Isaac smiled do you think we'd really cancel that?" Taylor just smiled,
"Thanks guys."
Speaking of which," Isaac said, "Zac I need to see you in the other room." They then left Taylor standing there. Taylor then turned and jumped. It was the man.
"Good choice. Don't blow it," the man said and then disappeared.
Taylor then ran into the room his brothers had just gone into and came up behind Zac, "Zac?"
"Yeah?" Zac answered. "Oh thank God!" Taylor said hugging his brother, glad he could still be seen. He then let go.
"You ok?" Zac asked.
"Never been better."
"Cool. Oh, the reason we came in here," Zac said, "was to discuss something and come to a disision. And we decided to give this to you now," Zac said and handed Taylor and small box.
"We saw this and thought that you might like it," Isaac said.
Taylor opened the box and inside was a beautiful, shiny, silver harmonica with "Jordan Taylor Hanson" engraved in it.
"Oh wow. Guys this is so cool. Thank you so much." Isaac and Zac just smiled.
"Yeah, now you can make the fans scream for you while playing your brand new harmonica!" Zac said in an announcer style voice. Taylor laughed. Fans. Things really were back to normal.
"Come on Taylor let's test that thing out!" Isaac said as they all headed for the garage where there instuments were set up. As they played, Taylor couldn't have felt happier.
That night at the party, Taylor was just so happy that so many people could see him. No one forgot him. Eventually, the dream was forgotten and he enjoyed the night. And when it came time to blow out his candles and his mother said "Make a wish" he wished that he and his family and those that he loves should always be together no matter what. He learned a valuble lesson. He learned that it's true that you really should be careful what you wish for.
