1999 - The Corrs album "Talk On Corners" went to No.1 on the UK album chart for the 10th time.
2003 - 50 Cent became the best selling artist in the US so far this year when his latest album "Get Rich or Die Tryin'' sold more than four million copies in two months.
2004 - Usher was at No.1 on the US album chart with "Confessions," the singer’s second US No.1.

1964 - The Searchers appear on "The Ed Sullivan Show," becoming the first British Invasion group to appear on the show after the Beatles.
1970 - A New York Times article defends rock music as "the most popular of creative arts today."
1984 - The second annual MTV Video Music Awards winners are: Michael Jackson for "Beat It," the Police for "Every Breath You Take" and Cyndi Lauper for "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun."
1993 - Construction began on the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.
2000 - The Doors' Ray Manzarek and Robbie Krieger play at the Whisky in Los Angeles. Manzarek reminisced about The Doors' days at the club.

1990 - Bonnie Raitt started a three-week run at No.1 on the US album chart with "Nick Of Time."
2003 - Avril Lavigne dominated Canada's national music awards the Junos. Winning four prizes including best single, album and new artist. Best group went to Sum 41.

1976 - Peter Frampton went to No.1 on the US album chart with "Frampton Comes Alive," the biggest selling 'live' album in rock history.
1982 - "Ebony and Ivory" a duet by Stevie Wonder and Paul McCartney, debuts on the U.S. charts at #29. It will go on top be Number One in both the U.S. and U.K., becoming Wonder's first British Number One.
1999 - TLC started a four week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with "No Scrubs."
2000 - Sony Music Entertainment announced plans to make its first commercial digital downloads available to U.S. consumers.

1977 - Alice Cooper played to an audience of 40,000 in Sydney, Australia, the largest crowd to attend a rock concert in the country's history.

1971 - Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young's live "Four Way Street" is certified gold even before it hits the LP chart.
1989 - Two DJ's on Los Angeles station KLOS asked what ever happened to David Cassidy. The singer called the station up and the presenters invited him onto the show. David played three songs live on air and was subsequently signed by a new record label.
1999 - Shania Twain became the only female artist in music history to sell at least 10 million units with back to back releases.
2002 - Ozzy Osbourne received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

1980 - The Broadway '50s musical "Grease" finally closes its run of 3,883 performances -- which made it the longest running show on Broadway, thus far.

1973 - Pink Floyd receives a gold album for "The Dark Side of the Moon," one of rock's landmark albums. The LP will remain on the charts for more than ten years and become the longest charting rock record of all time.
1982 – Toto enters the pop chart again with "Roseanna." It will later climb to Number One and be named Record of the Year at the 1983 Grammy Awards.
1993 - David Bowie went to No.1 on the UK album chart with "Black Tie White Noise," his eighth UK No.1 LP.

1982 - Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel reunite for a European tour. The U.S. leg doesn't go through due to renewed tensions between the duo.
1999 - The Madison Square Garden marquee in New York reads "Bob Dylan, Tonight at 8pm." Problem was that Neil Young was scheduled to appear, not Dylan. Dylan's name was lopped off before the concert, but after Young finished a song during the show, he quips, "That was Bob playing guitar with me on the last song."
