The Kissaway Trail live @ Rust in Copenhagen February 2nd 2007
by Sarah Lohmann Andersen phantasmagoria@hanson.net
Theyre Danish. Theyre indie. Their self-titled debut album is to be released in Europe, the UK and Australia in April (more countries will follow later).
Five microphones, three guitarists, a bass player and a drummer. Those are the ingredients of their shows. Their lyrics actually make you listen intently. The fact that there are two lead singers (Thomas Fagerlund and Sren Corneliussen) gives it interesting variation. The backing vocals play a strong part in the way you experience their songs. Not only do all five guys play their hearts out they all sing their hearts out as well - and their voices blend together beautifully. They appear a little bit shy on stage but its really just a charming feature and does not cover up the obvious passion they all have for what they do. Drummer Hasse Mydtskov makes your jaw drop. His shifting patterns of drumming (even mid-bar) will keep you on your toes for sure.
What perhaps impresses me the most with this band is how well they make their individual talents work together. It seems the focus is the music as a whole. Though we get a taste of each band members musical intellect, creativeness and abilities, it never gets out of control. When five people with such amazing talent come together theres always a fine line between showing what you can do on your instrument and losing your focus, overshadowing the overall joint effort to make the sound complete. The Kissaway Trail master this balance.
If you love MUSIC you should definitely check out this band. Upcoming tour dates can be found on The Kissaway Trail Myspace page.
If you're going to be in London for the Hanson show in April I recommend you check out The Kissaway Trail. They're playing in London on the 19th, 20th and 23rd of April.
