We decided to do it on January 1st. Quite short notice actually, but because of the tsunami in Asia on December 26, everything happened fast everywhere the first few weeks in 2005. The only gigs around were charity gigs, and artists all around the country played for free. CHEERS!
I'm not going to say that it was easy doing this...
So we kept asking, took some longshots... and it paid off!
But it was not Saturday yet...
Q:Then what do you do?
Of course the problem was already fixed between the bands... Thank you for sharing that VITAL information...!!!
Now all we had to worry about was whether or not the main band, Robert Post, would get there... They did...! And we could finally breath out and say that WE got Universal artist ROBERT POST to Norheimsund!!
Now it was time to worry about the audience... Not a soul turned up before 11... 2 hours after it was scheduled to start...
What did we do those two hours? Played cards, counted the 3 cars that drove past...listened to the new opening act (who showed up on 2 hours notice! Thank you!) For the occasion they called themselves The Rot-i-hop-band (...)
Then it was time for Robert Post. People started to show up! When I had picked them up at the Hotel (Thanks to Sandven Hotel for the FREE room!) and we came back to the pub, it was starting to get crowded! Yes!
Robert Fylling and Tor Bjarne Bjelland really did a great show, even without their bas player, Alf Aukan. We just have to say After Robert Post played, the Rot-i-hop-band went onstage again. The audience had fun, the artists had fun... and when the band started playing "Purple Rain" Robert, TB and their friend Helge, walked up and we got a really funny jam session! It was a ton of fun watching, and judging by the comment on Robert Post's homepage they had fun being there too!
"...and the last to end up being the weirdest but funniest show I've ever played." -Robert-
Hehe! Thank you! You did a fantastic job! And we raised 3571 NOK to the Red Cross!
We have now officially arranged a gig ourselves!
And it actually went well...
First we could not find a place to have it. Then, when we got a place the artists had slipped thru our fingers... A lot of the artists we then contacted were already taken... But we could not give up! It was for a good cause, and we really wanted it to happen!
Marionette Quartet (jazz) was the first band to say yes to play. But at noon Saturday I got a call saying the guitarplayer was ill...
OK... no opening act...
But they were supposed to bring the drums for both bands...
Q:How do you get a drumset without having to borrow a big car and drive to Bergen to get the one you were supposed to have???!
A:You call every musician you know and don't know in the area...
But the thing with drums is this: drummers CARE a lot about their drumset... and do not lend it to just anyone...
A:You pray to God and hope for the best...
THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH, GUYS!!!
It was a lot of fun having you there, and according to some of the notes you got in your guestbook afterwards, I think we might have to get you to come back some day... ;)
